The 300 Series H Block is the workhorse for the bottom of a tall, core-filled retaining wall. Because both ends are open, the bricklayer lowers it sideways over the starter bars projecting from the footing rather than lifting each block over the top of the steel - much faster and far safer. The open ends also leave a clear channel for concrete to flow the length of the wall, so the grout fills properly instead of bridging. Most engineered walls run 300 series H blocks for the first few courses, then step down to 200 series higher up where the loads ease.
