This is the block that spans openings in a 300mm wall. It's a U-shaped trough: lay it across the opening, drop in your reinforcing bar, fill with concrete, and you've formed a structural lintel in the same coursing as the rest of the wall. The deeper channel gives you more room for steel than a standard lintel, so it handles wider openings and heavier loads above. It also doubles as a bond beam block for running a continuous reinforced ring through a wall.
