Capping tiles are the flat solid pieces that sit on top of a finished 150mm block wall. They close off the open cores so the wall doesn't fill with water and rubbish, and they throw rainwater off the top instead of letting it run down into the blockwork - which is what causes the white efflorescence staining you see on unfinished block walls. They also just make the wall look finished rather than raw. Bed them on mortar over the last course; you need two and a half per lineal metre.
