How to lay edging stones in a garden

• Measure and mark your area. You can simply mark an area along the edge of an existing planting bed or landscape feature or you can use a garden hose, rope or marking paint to create a custom layout.
• Using a shovel dig a trench along the area you marked. Keep the loose earth nearby. You’ll use it to fill in around your edging stones when you finish the project.
• Add gap sand to your trench and compact it. The sand will create a stable base for the stones and make it easy to adjust and level them.
• Place the edging stones in the trench. Use a level to check everything is of level height. Add sand to raise the stones or use a rubber mallet to tap the stones down as needed. 
• Fill in any spaces with the loose earth to secure your edging.
