The 400 series single core is a pier block, and it's the easiest way to build a square masonry column. Because the block is 390mm square, a single unit forms an entire course of a 400mm pier - you're not bonding two blocks per course or cutting corners to make the layup work, you just stack them, drop in the steel and core-fill. Five blocks gets you a metre of height. It's the standard choice for gate piers, fence posts and verandah columns, and it also does duty at the base of very tall reinforced retaining walls. At 22.65kg each, plan for two-person handling.
